Kajakiem przez Polskę dla Jasia: Border Guard escorts kayaker on Szczecin-Świnoujście fairway
On 10 June 2025, a patrol vessel of the Pomeranian Border Guard Division (SG-216) provided navigational assistance to kayaker Dariusz Kajoch, who was completing a solo 1,200 km charity expedition across Poland. The initiative, titled “Kajakiem przez Polskę dla Jasia” (“Kayaking across Poland for Jas”), aimed to raise funds for a young boy with cerebral palsy in need of specialised treatment and rehabilitation.

The final stage of the journey took place on the busy Szczecin–Świnoujście fairway, entering from the Szczecin Lagoon into the Piast Canal—one of the most trafficked maritime routes in Western Pomerania. In response to the navigational risks posed by commercial vessel traffic, the SG-216 crew ensured safe transit for the kayaker through this critical segment.
- The emotions of yesterday are slowly settling... Reaching the finish line after 1,200 kilometres of battling time, wind, and personal limits was something incredible, said Dariusz Kajoch. - I want to thank everyone who greeted me at the finish – my wife Basia, my cousin, two aunts, my mother, and Jaś’s father, Adam. Together with Basia, I received a beautiful trophy from Jaś and his parents – a touching symbol of this journey.
Kajoch also expressed gratitude to all supporters:
- Thank you to everyone who was with me, even in thought – every kind word lifted me up along the way. And remember: the fundraising is still ongoing. Every donation is real help for Jaś – the little warrior this expedition was for.
The escort by SG-216 ensured a safe and smooth conclusion to the mission in waters governed by intensive vessel operations. The operation reflects the broader role of the Polish Border Guard in ensuring maritime traffic safety and supporting humanitarian and civic initiatives.
