Baltic Industrial Group to deliver secondary steel structures for Baltica 2 offshore wind project

PGE and Ørsted have signed a new contract with Baltic Industrial Group for the production and delivery of key secondary steel components for the Baltica 2 offshore wind farm. The structures will be manufactured in northern Poland, underscoring the growing capabilities of the local offshore wind supply chain.

The scope of the agreement includes the fabrication of service vessel landing platforms and anode cages. These components will be produced by Baltic Industrial Group – a Polish company owned by the Industrial Development Agency (ARP) – at its Gdańsk facility. The platforms and anode cages are critical to ensuring the structural integrity of turbine foundations, protecting them from corrosion and mechanical damage.

– Today’s contract with a Polish supplier in such a strategic area as secondary steel sends a clear signal that the domestic supply chain is ready to compete in the offshore wind sector. This competitiveness fosters innovation, which is vital to the global advancement of offshore wind technology, said Ulrik Lange, Vice President and Project Director for Baltica 2 at Ørsted.

The contract marks the final package of secondary steel components for the Baltica 2 project, which is already under construction. According to Baltic Industrial Group CEO Adam Kowalski, the deal not only confirms the company’s engineering capabilities in complex steel structures for the offshore sector, but also supports the development of Poland’s broader supply chain:

– We are proud that components manufactured in Gdańsk will directly contribute to Poland’s energy transition. Our production of secondary steel structures plays a critical role in ensuring the durability and safety of offshore wind farms.

Baltic Industrial Group includes Stocznia Gdańska (Gdańsk Shipyard), Energomontaż Północ-Gdynia, and Baltic Operator. The holding delivers advanced steel structures for both onshore and offshore wind projects. In recent years, the group has supplied offshore platforms for wind projects in the North Sea.

The Baltica 2 offshore wind farm – with a planned capacity of 1.5 GW – has entered its marine construction phase. Onshore grid infrastructure is already being built in the Choczewo municipality, and preparatory seabed works for foundation installation and subsea cable laying will begin soon. PGE and Ørsted, as joint investors, have secured final investment decisions, construction permits, and contracts for all major components, including turbines, foundations, cables, and offshore substations.

– One of PGE’s strategic goals is to maximize the participation of Polish companies in offshore wind development. Leveraging domestic expertise and industrial potential is essential to ensuring long-term value for the national economy, said Bartosz Fedurek, CEO of PGE Baltica.

As the first large-scale offshore wind project in Poland’s part of the Baltic Sea, Baltica 2 will play a pivotal role in the country’s clean energy transformation, generating enough electricity to power millions of homes while supporting the growth of a robust, competitive local supply chain.
