Foreigners under the scrutiny of officers from the Maritime Border Guard Unit
Only last week, officers from the Maritime Border Guard Unit stations in Elbląg, Gdańsk, Gdynia, Kołobrzeg, Szczecin, Świnoujście, and Ustka conducted residency legality checks on 119 foreigners. They found that 31 of them had violated regulations concerning entry and stay in Poland.

Officers determined that six foreigners did not have the proper documents allowing them to stay in Poland, 22 had crossed the state border illegally, and the personal data of three migrants appeared on the list of foreigners whose stay in Poland is undesirable. These individuals included citizens of Afghanistan, Albania, Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Kyrgyzstan, Colombia, Nigeria, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan, according to Tadeusz Gruchalla, spokesperson for the Maritime Border Guard Unit.
Some of the foreigners checked had crossed the Polish-German border and were subsequently turned back by German security forces. The lack of documents authorizing border crossing did not stop them from repeatedly crossing borders in violation of regulations.
- This behavior did not escape the attention of our officers, who immediately took appropriate action to apprehend the offenders. These individuals most often traveled on foot, but from their interrogations, we know that some migrants attempt to reach Germany by bus or train - adds Tadeusz Gruchalla.
One of the identified foreigners, an Albanian citizen, was detained by officers from the Border Guard Post in Świnoujście while returning by ferry from Sweden. During the proceedings, it was revealed that the Albanian had previously left a Liberia-flagged vessel without authorization and then illegally crossed the state border from Poland to Sweden and back.
Officers from the Border Guard Post in Ustka, while verifying the entry and residence conditions of a Georgian citizen in Poland, established that he had been listed in the register of foreigners whose stay in Poland is undesirable due to a final court conviction for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. A similar case was recorded by Border Guard officers in Kołobrzeg when they checked a Ukrainian citizen whose personal data appeared in the register.
Border guards from the Border Guard Post in Elbląg checked a Ukrainian citizen leaving the prison in Sztum, whose criminal past was the reason for his inclusion in the list of persons undesirable in Poland.
- Foreigners were issued return orders, among other reasons, due to national defense and security concerns, as well as the protection of public safety and order in the interest of Poland. They were placed in Guarded Centers for Foreigners. Proceedings are still ongoing regarding the Ukrainian citizen - says Tadeusz Gruchalla from the Maritime Border Guard Unit.
Officers from the Border Guard Post in Szczecin, as part of the liaison officer apparatus operating at the West Pomeranian Voivodeship Office, checked the legality of a Kyrgyz citizen's stay in Poland. The foreigner had come to Poland using the short-term stay possibility granted by his Hungarian residence permit and then applied to the West Pomeranian Voivode for a temporary residence and work permit. However, it turned out that he had failed to submit the application within the required timeframe, making his stay in Poland illegal once his short-term stay period expired.
- Due to the failure to comply with Polish regulations, illegal migrants had to face the initiation of appropriate legal procedures by Border Guard officers. As a result of the circumstances, 11 administrative proceedings were initiated regarding foreigners' obligation to return. This led to the issuance of 10 decisions ordering their departure, along with bans on re-entering Poland and other Schengen area countries. The longest entry ban imposed was five years - adds Tadeusz Gruchalla.
