Equinor commences construction of service base in Łeba: cornerstone ceremony

In Łeba, where the wind and sea have shaped the landscape for years, a new chapter in the town's and region's history has begun. On Tuesday, March 4, 2025, the cornerstone was ceremonially laid for the construction of an operations and maintenance base for the Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 offshore wind farms. This strategic investment by Equinor strengthens the region's position as a key hub for offshore wind energy in Poland and offers opportunities for job creation and collaboration with the local supply chain.

The ceremonial event was attended by representatives of local authorities, key stakeholders, and project partners.

The new base will provide operations and maintenance services for the Bałtyk offshore wind farms for decades, employing highly skilled specialists.

- Today, we are laying the cornerstone for our new operations and maintenance base in Łeba. This is not only a symbolic step but also the beginning of a new era in the development of offshore wind energy in Poland. The new base will serve as a state-of-the-art operational center for servicing and maintaining the Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 offshore wind farms. This investment will not only enhance our operational capabilities in the region but also create new jobs and contribute to the local economy. We believe that this infrastructure will strengthen the country’s energy security. May this cornerstone be a symbol of our collective efforts in building a sustainable future, said Michał Jerzy Kołodziejczyk, CEO of Equinor Poland.

The operations and maintenance base, to be built by Erbud, will be located on a revitalized port area. The modern, environmentally friendly facility will include office space, a remote control and monitoring center for offshore wind farms, a spare parts warehouse, and a quay for mooring vessels. The preparatory work on the site began at the turn of 2024 and 2025. Construction is scheduled to start in March 2025, with completion and commissioning expected in mid-2026.

The base’s architectural design was developed by the Gdańsk-based firm B-CA. The concept focuses on creating a climate-neutral building that maximizes the potential of renewable energy sources and locally available materials. Through this initiative, Equinor underscores its commitment to the local community and economy.

Supplier day for the Łeba operations and maintenance base

Equinor and Polenergia invite Polish companies registered in Poland to participate in supplier day. The event will take place on April 2, 2025, at the Gdańsk incubator of entrepreneurship STARTER. This edition will focus on finding suppliers for maintenance and servicing of offshore wind farms for the Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 projects, which will be serviced from the Łeba base.

During the ceremony, a time capsule was also prepared, containing the foundation act, symbolic coins, and a local newspaper. In keeping with tradition, this capsule was sealed beneath the new operations and maintenance base as a keepsake for future generations.
