Damen Shipyards Group has announced the introduction of a new series of logistics support ships (LSS). These modern vessels will serve as a key element in strengthening the operational capabilities of naval forces, enabling prolonged deployment and providing effective logistical support in an economical and efficient manner.

Two models with a wide range of applications

The LSS series consists of two vessel models – the LSS 9000 and LSS 11000, measuring 127 and 140 meters in length, respectively. Damen has designed these ships to meet the versatile needs of modern naval forces. Each model offers extensive operational capabilities, ensuring readiness and flexibility in various applications.

The backbone of maritime logistics

LSS vessels will be equipped with NATO-standard replenishment at sea (RAS) systems, RoRo loading and unloading capabilities, and spacious cargo areas. Modern navigation and communication systems will ensure their safe and efficient operation.

These vessels will play a crucial role in supplying naval fleets operating far from their home ports. The LSS will enable the efficient transport of fuel, ammunition, supplies, personnel, and other essential resources, allowing naval forces to sustain long-term power projection and maintain a presence in strategic maritime areas.

Modular design and versatile applications

Thanks to their modular design, LSS vessels can be quickly configured and upgraded based on operational needs. Their scope of application extends beyond logistical support to include humanitarian missions, crisis response, and training exercises.

Designed to operate in diverse maritime environments – from open oceans to coastal waters – the LSS combines both military and commercial technologies. This approach significantly reduces operating expenses (OPEX) and capital expenditures (CAPEX).

In addition to cost optimization and operational efficiency, the new LSS units stand out for their high level of environmental sustainability. Equipped with advanced propulsion systems, these ships will significantly reduce fuel consumption and emissions, aligning with the growing sustainability objectives of naval forces.
