Damen delivers a comprehensive dredging package to Guyana
The Damen Shipyards Group has recently delivered a Damen CSD 350 cutter suction dredger to Guyana Port Inc. (GPI). The stationary dredger is second-hand, and its purchase was facilitated through Damen. The delivery included a comprehensive start-up package, including floating pipelines, spare parts, commissioning, and crew training. The completion of the commissioning process further underscores Damen’s role as a one-stop provider of maritime services – from design and construction to brokerage, transportation, training, and field service support.

After completing its first dredging project, the modular dredger was ready for its next assignment. Damen Trading delivered it to GPI, which actively supports the development of Guyana’s maritime infrastructure and its economic growth through port expansion.
The cutter suction dredger will remove accumulated sediment from key shipping channels of the Demerara River, increasing navigational depth and ensuring safe and efficient vessel traffic. Additionally, the CSD 350 will deepen strategic areas of the Port of Georgetown to meet international standards and facilitate the development of shore-based infrastructure. This capability is crucial for accommodating larger ships and boosting trade activities, which significantly contribute to the country’s economic growth.
The CSD 350 is the first dredger in GPI’s fleet. Bram van der Plas, Damen Sales Manager, emphasizes: “Guyana Port Inc. is becoming a key part of the new regional maritime hub. Trade and vessel traffic have grown significantly in recent times, mainly due to the expansion of the oil and gas sector. Damen has been a long-term partner of GPI, and adding a dredger to its assets will ensure Guyana is well-prepared for future demands on its port infrastructure.”
Damen field service engineers have commissioned the dredger on-site and trained the crew. The CSD 350, named Mud Shredder, has now entered its second operational phase, contributing to Guyana’s economic development. Given the country’s rapid growth, it is expected that this will be the first of many Damen dredgers to support the expansion of this dynamically evolving economy!
