BC-Wind marks Ocean Winds' first investment in Poland. The wind farm, with a planned capacity of up to 500 MW, is located approximately 23 km off the Polish coastline, north of the Pomeranian Voivodeship. While Cadeler and Ocean Winds have previously collaborated on projects such as the Moray West offshore wind farm off the coast of Scotland, this agreement represents their first direct contractual engagement.
Strengthening Cadeler’s position in the Polish offshore wind market
The signing of the VRA for BC-Wind reinforces Cadeler’s strong standing in Poland’s offshore wind market and continues its expanding portfolio in the region.
In October last year, Cadeler signed firm contracts with Equinor and Polenergia for the installation of turbines at the Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 wind farms, with work scheduled to commence in 2027.
In February 2023, Cadeler secured a contract with Ørsted and PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna for the transport and installation of Siemens Gamesa 14 MW turbines at Baltica 2, a part of the Baltica Offshore Wind Farm. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2027.
In July 2023, Cadeler signed an agreement with Baltic Power for the installation of 76 Vestas 15 MW wind turbines at the Baltic Power offshore wind farm. Installation work is set to begin in 2025, with completion targeted for 2026. The wind farm will have a total capacity of 1.2 GW.
Outlook for the Polish offshore wind sector
Mikkel Gleerup, CEO of Cadeler, commented: “We are excited to embark on this partnership with Ocean Winds, utilizing our expertise and resources to further expand our presence in Poland. The country is emerging as a key player in the offshore wind market, and we are proud to contribute to its growth in the Baltic Sea.”
Cadeler is a global leader in the transportation and installation of offshore wind turbines. The company currently operates a fleet of six jack-up vessels, with five additional newbuilds expected to be delivered in the coming years, further strengthening its position in the global offshore wind industry.
