Baltic Sentry: training together, securing together
In the Baltic Sea region, cooperation is key. As part of the Baltic Sentry operation, the standing NATO mine countermeasures group 1 (SNMCMG1) joins forces with regional allies to protect critical underwater infrastructure vital for the energy and communication sectors. The joint efforts also involve sharing intelligence on unusual maritime activities to maintain maritime security.

Key training elements of the SNMCMG1 exercises:
- MULTI RAS: The Dutch support vessel HNLMS Luymes played a key role, while the Dutch minehunter HNLMS Schiedam and the Lithuanian patrol ship Sėlis conducted mailbag transfers. This is a vital skill for delivering essential supplies at sea during real-life operations.
- X-Poll: A Lithuanian SAR helicopter facilitated a personnel exchange, allowing crews to learn from each other and improve coordination for future missions.
The goal of the Baltic Sentry exercises is not only to protect critical underwater infrastructure but also to enhance rapid response capabilities and strengthen ties between NATO and regional allies.
As NATO representatives emphasize, joint training is the foundation of a strong and secure Baltic Sea.
