Equinor and Polenergia, jointly developing offshore wind farm projects in the Baltic Sea, have received the first delivery of HV 220kV and EHV 400kV cables intended for the onshore parts of the Baltic 2 and Baltic 3 projects.
The design, production, and delivery of the cables were carried out by the Polish company Tele-Fonika Kable, which delivered the first 24 drums with a total weight of 310 tons. This delivery marks the beginning of the schedule, which includes over 120 km of cables (198 drums) to be delivered in subsequent stages according to the project plan. The HV and EHV onshore cables provided for both projects are 100% manufactured at the Bydgoszcz plant, part of the TFKable Group.
TFKable is among a select group of the most specialized and technologically advanced suppliers of medium, high, and extra-high voltage cable systems. The group is a global provider of HV and EHV cable systems for the energy sector, including renewable energy.
The installation of the cables supplied by Tele-Fonika Kable will be handled by Enprom, one of Poland's leading power engineering construction companies operating domestically and internationally. Enprom will construct the onshore cable lines for both projects, including four 220 kV cable routes with a length of approximately 7 km, connecting the offshore cables to the onshore substations, and two 400 kV routes leading to the PSE station, located over 6 km away. All routes will also include telecommunication fiber optic cables.
Baltic offshore wind farms: 4 million households powered
The Baltic 2 and Baltic 3 wind farms, developed as part of the first phase of offshore wind energy in Poland, are located in the Polish exclusive economic zone of the Baltic Sea, between 22 and 37 km from the coastline. The first energy from these projects is expected to flow into the grid as early as 2027, with commercial operations planned to begin in 2028.
In the next phase of offshore development in Poland, Equinor and Polenergia are working on Baltic 1, the largest wind farm project in the Polish part of the Baltic Sea, with a capacity of up to 1560 MW and located 81 km offshore. This project is being prepared for auction in 2025.
The Baltic offshore wind farms will supply green energy to over 4 million households.
