The incident was reported at approximately 2:18 PM by a beachgoer who approached lifeguards stationed at post A5. Upon arrival at the scene, responders determined the child’s condition to be more serious than initially described.
A section of the swimming area was immediately closed to ensure safety and allow rescue operations to proceed without hindrance. Six lifeguards and two rescue ATVs were dispatched to the site. Emergency first aid was administered by the lifeguard team in cooperation with a nurse who was present on the beach at the time.
In coordination with the local Volunteer Fire Department (OSP Łeba), a temporary landing zone was prepared for the inbound HEMS (Helicopter Emergency Medical Service) unit. The LPR (Polish Air Ambulance Service) helicopter, "Ratownik 3," landed safely to facilitate rapid medical evacuation.
After approximately one hour of coordinated action, the young patient was stabilized and airlifted to a regional hospital for further treatment. Swimming areas were reopened shortly afterward, and lifeguards resumed standard operational readiness.
WOPR Gniewino extends sincere thanks to all collaborating services, including the Łeba Volunteer Fire Department, emergency medical team (ZRM), the LPR flight crew, and to the beachgoers for their cooperation and understanding. We wish the young patient a full and speedy recovery.
