A new Dar Młodzieży will be built. The government will allocate 300 million for the construction of new vessels

The government has announced the construction of a new training sailing ship, Dar Młodzieży, as well as a scientific research vessel. Infrastructure Minister Dariusz Klimczak stated that hundreds of millions of zlotys will be allocated for this purpose. This decision aims to meet the needs of Polish maritime universities and improve training conditions for future sailors.

A new Dar Młodzieży – meeting the needs of Polish Maritime Shipping

The current Dar Młodzieży, which has served as a training vessel since the 1980s, is now outdated and no longer meets modern standards. Minister Dariusz Klimczak emphasized that the new sailing ship will address the needs of Polish maritime shipping.

- My ambition, and what maritime shipping is waiting for, is a new Dar Młodzieży," the minister stated on Polsat News' Graffiti program. "The current vessel was built in the 1980s and is now obsolete, he added.

Two new ships: training and research

Minister Klimczak announced that the government plans to construct not only a new Dar Młodzieży but also a scientific research vessel.

- We also lack a research vessel, so together with Deputy Minister Arkadiusz Marchewka, who oversees maritime economy, we have decided to build a new Dar Młodzieży and a new research vessel—two ships, said Dariusz Klimczak.

The construction of these new vessels aims to fulfill the needs of Polish maritime universities, which have long called for a modernization of their training fleet.

- This issue concerns science, education, and the needs of our maritime universities in Gdynia and Szczecin, and they really need it, the minister emphasized.

Costs and Cconstruction timeline

Preliminary estimates suggest that building the new Dar Młodzieży will cost approximately 300 million PLN. Minister Klimczak assured that the construction process would not take longer than a few years.

- This is not a large, complex project like high-speed rail or a new airport. However, it is essential for Polish maritime shipping, the national maritime economy, and overall development, he pointed out.

Klimczak also noted that Polish sailors currently have to rely on foreign vessels for their training.

- Right now, enormous sums are being spent in other countries to meet the educational needs of young Polish sailors, who undergo training on foreign ships that meet the required criteria, he said.
