The survey found that for those opting for domestic travel, the main purpose is rest and relaxation (54%), followed by sightseeing and visiting cultural attractions (20%), and visiting family and friends (12%).
Mountains remain the most popular domestic destination (31%), followed by seaside resorts (21%), and cities (15%). According to POT data, the most frequently selected regions are Pomeranian Voivodeship (17%), Lesser Poland (16%), and Warmian-Masurian and Lower Silesian Voivodeships (7% each).
Notably, the percentage of Poles planning to use paid accommodation increased by 12 percentage points compared to last year, reaching 71%. Meanwhile, 25% intend to stay with family or friends, or at their own vacation homes or allotments. Most respondents (48%) plan short trips of up to three nights, while 27% anticipate longer stays of four to seven nights.
In terms of budget, 21% expect to spend between PLN 501 and 1,000 (approx. €115–€230) per person, 17% between PLN 1,500 and 2,000, and 13% plan to spend less than PLN 500. Respondents traveling abroad foresee higher expenses, with 21% estimating costs between PLN 2,000 and 3,000, and 17% expecting to spend PLN 3,000–4,000 or more per person.
For international travel, warm seaside destinations are the most sought after (38%), followed by city trips (28%) and mountain holidays (16%). The main motivations cited by this group are sightseeing and visiting cultural sites (39%) and relaxation (38%). Around 10% plan to visit family or friends.
International May holiday trips are generally longer: 35% of respondents plan stays of four to seven nights, 22% expect one to three nights, while nearly 20% plan trips lasting over two weeks.
The survey also indicated that willingness to travel during the May holidays correlates with education level: 55% of respondents with higher education degrees plan to travel, compared to 31% with only primary education. Residents of larger cities (over 100,000 inhabitants) and households with children under 18 are also more likely to plan trips, particularly domestic ones.
The survey was conducted by PBS on behalf of POT using CAWI methodology. The study sampled 1,000 individuals aged 18–65 between April 1–7, 2025.
