The Maritime Border Guard unit launches recruitment for future officers
The Maritime Border Guard Unit named after Col. Karol Bacz in Gdańsk has initiated this year's recruitment for candidates to serve in various sections of its jurisdiction. Positions are available in divisions in Świnoujście and Gdańsk, as well as at Border Guard stations stretching from Krynica Morska to Szczecin and Świnoujście.
Key responsibilities and opportunities
The unit, unique in Poland for its maritime specialization, is primarily tasked with protecting the country’s maritime border. This responsibility is carried out directly by the Border Guard divisions, which are now seeking candidates to join their vessel crews. Preference is given to applicants with maritime qualifications, though lack of prior professional experience is not a barrier. Candidates will undergo comprehensive training at the Higher Border Guard School in Koszalin or specialized training centers.
Onshore roles are also available, with opportunities in various specialties such as document forgery experts, migration specialists, bomb disposal technicians, service dog handlers, and musicians. Notably, the unit includes a band, one of only two in the Border Guard, and the only one dressed in naval uniforms.
Eligibility requirements
To join the Border Guard, candidates must:
- Have no criminal record,
- Hold Polish citizenship exclusively,
- Be at least 18 years old,
- Have completed at least secondary education,
- Be physically and mentally fit for service in armed formations.
Recruitment is open to high school seniors and graduates of vocational or technical schools, even if they do not yet hold educational certificates or have resolved military service status.
Recruitment process
The qualification process begins with a review of the submitted documents and an initial interview. This is followed by psychological and psychophysiological testing, including a polygraph examination, as candidates must demonstrate reliability and truthfulness.
Next, candidates take general knowledge and foreign language tests, a physical fitness exam, and participate in a final interview. Successful applicants then undergo medical examinations to confirm their suitability for service.
Following the recruitment process, candidates will attend training at Border Guard centers or the Higher Border Guard School. A new addition is the option to pursue a degree at the school in Koszalin, where after three years, graduates earn a bachelor's degree and the rank of junior warrant officer. The program includes free meals, uniforms, and accommodation.
Benefits and compensation
New officers can earn over PLN 6,000 net per month. Additional benefits include housing allowances, financial support for purchasing or renovating a home, reimbursement for commuting costs, a uniform allowance, a 13th salary, and vacation subsidies.
