US Coast Guard seizes over 5 tons of cocaine off the eastern Pacific

The crew of the USCGC Escanaba (WMEC 907) has once again demonstrated the effectiveness of sustained maritime law enforcement operations. During three separate interdictions in the eastern Pacific, the cutter’s boarding teams seized a total of 5,408 kilograms (nearly 5.41 tons) of cocaine, with an estimated street value of $88.2 million.

The contraband was confiscated from vessels suspected of smuggling operations into North America. Following the operations, the cocaine was offloaded and documented at Port Everglades, Florida, underscoring the US Coast Guard’s commitment to interagency coordination and international cooperation in disrupting transoceanic drug trafficking.

- Effective presence on key maritime routes directly limits cartel activity and helps secure the nation’s borders, USCG officials said.

The Escanaba, a Famous-class medium endurance cutter based in Boston, remains a key operational asset in the US Coast Guard’s anti-drug efforts across the Pacific and Atlantic waters.
