Świnoujście secures over PLN 4 million for Karsibór II ferry overhaul

The city of Świnoujście has secured PLN 4,000,045 in funding from Poland’s general subsidy reserve for 2025 to carry out a major overhaul of the Karsibór II ferry, a key component of the city’s local transport network.

– We worked hard to obtain these funds – our municipality has now officially been included on the list of projects co-financed under the 2025 general subsidy reserve – said Joanna Agatowska, Mayor of Świnoujście.

The Karsibór II ferry plays a critical role in maintaining everyday connectivity across Świnoujście’s islands. Its aging technical condition has raised growing concerns in recent years, prompting local authorities to seek national-level support.

– Thanks to joint efforts and the decisions of the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Ministry of Finance, we have secured funds for the renovation of this ferry, which is essential for daily transportation and the safety of our residents – Agatowska emphasized.

However, the overall cost of the project will exceed the granted amount. The city has committed to covering the funding gap from its own budget. The upcoming year will see Świnoujście allocate substantial resources to maritime and urban infrastructure maintenance.

– This year alone, we will spend over PLN 57 million on the operation of ferries, tunnel maintenance, repairs, and other essential works. A tremendous amount – noted the mayor. – It is also the highest single allocation awarded in the entire West Pomeranian Voivodeship.

The planned renovation of Karsibór II represents a vital step toward ensuring the resilience and safety of Świnoujście’s maritime transport system. The investment will help sustain a reliable link not only for residents but also for the broader logistics and tourism sectors in the region.
