Joint operations and strengthening the alliance

Before docking, a meeting was held aboard the flagship HNLMS Tromp with Royal Navy Vice Admiral Mike Utley, Commander of NATO’s Allied Maritime Command (MARCOM), and Commander Piotr Nieć of the Polish Navy, Deputy Commander of CTF Baltic.

- This joint visit highlights SNMG-1’s strategic importance to regional security, demonstrating NATO’s unwavering focus on strengthening maritime defense and cooperation in the Baltic Sea, stated NATO.

During the stay in Copenhagen, the crew of HNLMS Tromp hosted Nienke Trooster, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Denmark, underscoring the strong diplomatic ties between both countries and their shared commitment to the Baltic Sentry mission.

Strengthening NATO’s naval presence in the Baltic

The SNMG-1 task group officially welcomed the Belgian frigate BNS Louise-Marie and the French corvette FS Jacoubet, which are operating alongside the German FGS Magdeburg and the Dutch HNLMS Tromp.

- The integration of new units enhances NATO’s readiness and interoperability, strengthening the Alliance’s ability to protect key maritime routes, NATO reported.

From February 11–14, HNLMS Tromp conducted a working visit to Gdańsk, where it replenished supplies and carried out logistical operations, aligning with NATO’s broader strategy of maintaining high operational readiness in the Baltic region.

Following the visit, FGS Magdeburg and FS Jacoubet will remain in the region to continue Baltic Sentry operations, while HNLMS Tromp and BNS Louise-Marie will head north to participate in the Joint Viking exercises, where they will be joined by FS Somme.

SNMG-1 is one of NATO’s four Standing Maritime Groups, ensuring security within the Alliance’s area of responsibility.

- A continuous presence and cooperation in the Baltic Sea demonstrate the Alliance’s unity and determination to ensure regional security, NATO emphasized
