Meeting with the U.S. Secretary of State
As part of the visit, Minister Sikorski met in Washington with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The discussions focused on the current situation in Ukraine and the possibilities of further military and financial support for the embattled country. The necessity of maintaining effective sanctions against Russia and utilizing frozen Russian assets for Ukraine's reconstruction was also emphasized.
Another crucial aspect of the meeting was transatlantic relations, including military and energy cooperation. Minister Sikorski underscored the strategic importance of the Polish-American alliance and pointed to prospects for its further development.
Talks with key U.S. administration advisors
During his visit to Washington, Minister Sikorski also held meetings with Kevin Hassett, director of the National Economic Council, and Michael Waltz, national security advisor to President Donald Trump. Topics included international security, the situation in Ukraine and the Middle East, and the development of economic cooperation.
Presence at expert forums and CPAC
Minister Sikorski participated in meetings with representatives of leading American think tanks such as CEPA, CSIS, Atlantic Council, Hudson Institute, and the American Enterprise Institute. Additionally, he attended the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), one of the most significant events in the U.S. conservative community.
At the conference, he visited the United Against Nuclear Iran booth, where a downed Iranian Shahed 136 drone, shot down by Ukraine, was displayed. The Polish government, in collaboration with Ukraine, was involved in the operation to transport the drone to the U.S.
Speech at the UN forum
On February 24, marking the third anniversary of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, Minister Sikorski will participate in the special emergency session of the UN General Assembly and a UN Security Council briefing.
At the request of high representative of the EU for foreign affairs and security policy, Kaja Kallas, he will deliver a speech on behalf of the entire European Union. In New York, he will also meet with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and representatives of Polish professional communities.
Minister Radosław Sikorski’s visit to the U.S. represents a significant step in strengthening the transatlantic alliance and enhancing cooperation in security and sanctions policy against Russia.
