"Dar Młodzieży" Sets Sail on Two-Month Training Voyage with Maritime University of Gdynia Cadets

On the morning of June 20th, 2025, the Polish sail training ship Dar Młodzieży departed from the Port of Gdynia, embarking on a two-month educational voyage. Onboard are 125 cadets from the Maritime University of Gdynia (MUG), including 118 students from the Faculty of Navigation and 7 from the Faculty of Marine Engineering, accompanied by a 32-member professional crew.

The ceremonial send-off was attended by the Rector of the Maritime University of Gdynia, Prof. Adam Weintrit, DSc, Master Mariner, and the Director of the Department of Ship Operations and Maritime Training, Capt. Dariusz Jellonnek, MSc Eng.

This voyage forms a vital component of the university’s hands-on maritime training curriculum. During the journey, cadets will engage in practical seamanship duties, familiarize themselves with vessel operations, and develop teamwork skills essential for their future careers as merchant marine officers.

Dar Młodzieży’s itinerary includes participation in several prestigious international maritime events. One of the key highlights is The Tall Ships Races 2025, where the vessel will race alongside the world’s most renowned sail training ships. Another major stop will be Bremerhaven, Germany, from August 13–17, where Dar Młodzieży will take part in a major tall ships gathering. On August 14th, MUG cadets will attend the 50th anniversary celebration of Hochschule Bremerhaven – a long-standing partner institution of the Maritime University of Gdynia, with over 20 years of academic cooperation.

Following crew rotation on August 16th, a new group of 130 cadets from the Faculty of Navigation will embark for the next leg of the voyage. From August 20–24, Dar Młodzieży will participate in the 10th edition of SAIL Amsterdam, a flagship maritime event that this year commemorates the 750th anniversary of the city.

The training cruise is scheduled to conclude with Dar Młodzieży's return to the Port of Gdynia on September 14th, 2025.
