Safety zones and navigation restrictions
Due to the scale of the operation and potential risks to people and infrastructure, strict safety zones have been established. A strict ban on entering the water will be in place along the designated section of the coastline from Gdańsk entry 26 (Stogi Beach, Nowotna Street) to Gdańsk entry 11 (Gdańsk Orle, Lazurowa Street) on the following dates:
- March 11-14, 2025, from 07:30 to 16:00,
- March 18, 2025, from 07:30 to 16:00.
At the same time, navigation restrictions defined by the maritime office in Gdynia will be in effect in the waters of Gdańsk Bay. Information on these restrictions will be available in navigational communications.
Organization and security of the operation
The operation, conducted by the Polish navy, will be carried out in cooperation with the maritime office in Gdynia, the crisis management staffs of the Pomeranian voivodeship office, and the city of Gdańsk. Water security will be provided by vessels of the maritime office and the border guard, while police officers and other uniformed services will ensure order on the beaches.
Importance of the operation
The neutralization of unexploded ordnance is a key element in ensuring safety in the Gdańsk Bay area. Remnants from World War II pose a serious threat to both the marine environment and waterway users. Regular operations carried out by the Polish navy and cooperating services aim to eliminate these threats and enhance the safety of navigation and water recreation in the region.
We join the security services in urging residents and tourists to strictly adhere to the designated safety zones and follow the recommendations of the responsible authorities. Up-to-date information on the operation will be available on the websites of the maritime office and the Polish navy.
Residents of Pomerania have received an RCB alert regarding the threat, reminding them of the need to exercise extreme caution on the specified dates.
