More than 400 steel structures for Baltica 2 foundations head to the installation port. Three-quarters from Poland
As construction of the Baltica 2 offshore wind farm continues, a phased logistics operation is under way. While further monopiles are being installed at sea, more than 400 additional steel structures for the foundations are heading to the installation port at Rønne on the Danish island of Bornholm. More than 75% of these elements come from Polish factories.

The components in question are what the industry calls secondary steel: the fittings that equip the turbine foundations before they move on to later stages of assembly. They include external platforms, suspended internal platforms, mooring platforms for service vessels, and anode cages. All travel first to the installation port, from where they are dispatched in sequence to the offshore construction site and mounted on the foundations in line with the installation schedule.
What Baltica 2 is
Baltica 2 is a joint venture between Poland's PGE Group and Denmark's Ørsted, structured as a company in which each partner holds half. The roughly 1.5 GW farm (1,498 MW to be precise) is being built in the Polish part of the Baltic Sea, off Łeba and Ustka, about 40 kilometres from shore, over an area of nearly 190 square kilometres. It will comprise 107 Siemens Gamesa turbines of 14 MW each. Once commissioned, it will be the largest offshore wind farm in Poland and one of the largest in Europe, able to cover the demand of around 2.5 million households. The final investment decision was taken in early 2025, and the estimated outlay is around 30 billion złoty. Together with the Baltica 3 phase, the farm will form the Baltica Offshore Wind Farm complex.
The turbines stand on monopile foundations. A total of 111 are being installed: 107 for the wind turbines and 4 for the offshore substations. It is precisely these figures that later explain the structure of the secondary-steel deliveries.
Three plants, three routes
A total of more than 400 structures from three manufacturers will reach Rønne, and most of them are made in Poland.
From Świnoujście, 107 suspended internal platforms will be shipped. They are supplied by Smulders, with production taking place at Polish plants in Żary, from where the elements travel to the coast and are prepared for shipment to the Baltic.
From Gdańsk, 111 mooring platforms for service vessels and 111 anode cages will go to the installation port on Bornholm. These are the responsibility of Grupa Przemysłowa Baltic, which operates in Gdańsk and Gdynia. The structures will be mounted on the foundations of the turbines and of the offshore substations.
The longest route falls to the external working platforms. The 107 such elements will be supplied by the Portuguese company Etermar, from Setúbal. It is the only part of this logistical puzzle from outside Poland.
What these structures are for
Seemingly minor add-on steel elements are in fact an important part of the foundations' fit-out. Suspended internal platforms and external working platforms give technical crews access to the structure. Mooring platforms allow service vessels to come alongside a monopile safely. Anode cages, in turn, are part of the corrosion-protection system that shields the steel from the harsh marine environment over decades of operation.
This is where the delivery figures return. There are 107 internal and external platforms each, because there are 107 turbines. There are 111 mooring platforms and anode cages each, because they cover both the 107 turbine foundations and the 4 foundations of the offshore substations.
Polish industry in the lead
The strongest theme of the operation is the role of domestic industry. More than 75% of the additional steel units for the Baltica 2 foundations come from plants in Poland, which the investors point to as evidence of the maturity of the local supply chain.
Ulrik Lange, managing director of the Baltica 2 project at Ørsted, noted that the farm is now in an intensive construction phase, in which the installation of monopiles at sea is matched by precisely coordinated delivery logistics. He stressed that the high, more than 75% share of Polish plants is especially important, because domestic industry is developing the competencies it will need on future offshore wind projects. Bartosz Fedurek, chief executive of PGE Baltica, added that building the farm involves, alongside the work at sea, a complex logistics of components, in which Polish firms are proving themselves successfully. He called it further proof of the domestic industry's readiness to take part in demanding offshore wind projects.
From monopiles to first power
The operation fits into a tight offshore schedule. The installation of 111 monopiles in the Baltic began in the spring and is due to continue until the fourth quarter of 2026. The first secondary-steel structures were mounted on the monopiles in early June, and the transport of all the elements to the installation port will continue until the end of August. Once they reach Rønne, the components are gradually sent out to the offshore construction site and mounted on the foundations in the order of the installation work.
The following stages will cover cable-laying and the installation of turbines, scheduled for 2027. Under the current schedule, the first power from Baltica 2 will flow in the first half of 2027, with full commercial commissioning planned by the end of the same year. For Poland's offshore wind sector, only now entering the construction phase of its first large farms, carrying out this operation smoothly matters as much as the megawatts themselves. It shows that domestic industry can not only manufacture the structures required, but also deliver them on time within a complex chain of production, transport and assembly.
