SG-301 General Józef Haller drills oil spill response off Gdynia
On September 22, the Polish Border Guard vessel SG-301 “General Józef Haller” took part in a practical oil spill response exercise off the roadstead of the Port of Gdynia. Supported by the SG-003 RIB from the Kashubian Border Guard Division, the operation also involved the SAR vessel “Sztorm”, the offshore supply tug “KAMBR”, and the “Tukana” of the Maritime Office in Gdynia.

The scenario covered the deployment of oil containment booms, coordinated multi-vessel maneuvers at varying courses and speeds, and the use of oil recovery skimmers. The exercise was overseen from the “Tukana”, acting as coordination platform.
The primary goal was to enhance cooperation and interoperability between the Polish Maritime Search and Rescue Service (SAR), the maritime administration, and the Border Guard. Effective and timely responses are critical in mitigating the ecological consequences of oil spills, while exercises of this type allow crews to test both equipment reliability and emergency procedures.
The drill was organized by Miliana Shipmanagement Ltd., part of ORLEN Petrobaltic Group.
