Jantar Unity: modernization of POLSCA fleet and Baltic ro-pax shipping
The new ferry Jantar Unity, the first vessel in a series of modern ships under a strategic construction program, has entered the operational testing phase ahead of its official christening in Szczecin. The ferry strengthens POLSCA’s fleet and represents the evolution of modern Ro-Pax shipping in the Baltic, combining advanced propulsion technologies with operational efficiency.

Ferry construction program – a strategic investment for Poland
Built at Remontowa Holding Shipyard in Gdańsk, Jantar Unity is the first of three LNG-hybrid ferries scheduled for delivery between 2026 and 2028. The vessel measures 195.6 meters in length, 32.2 meters in width, and can carry approximately 4,100 lane meters of cargo and 400 passengers with a crew of 50. The hybrid LNG propulsion system significantly reduces CO₂ emissions and fuel consumption, meeting European environmental standards for modern ferry operations.
Port and maneuvering trials – operational readiness verified
After leaving the shipyard on 11 January, Jantar Unity sailed to Trelleborg for its first port and maneuvering trials. The vessel then continued testing in Ystad, including quay operations, harbor maneuvers, and verification of onboard systems. All trials confirmed the ferry’s readiness for the next phases of operational deployment.
Christening in Szczecin – official entry into service
The official christening in Szczecin will mark the culmination of the ferry construction program and the vessel’s entry into service. This investment not only strengthens the Unity Line fleet but also highlights effective collaboration between Polish shipowners, shipyards, and port authorities in delivering strategic maritime projects.
Jantar Unity exemplifies modern Ro-Pax shipping: efficient, environmentally friendly, and fully prepared to meet the challenges of the Baltic ferry market.
POLSCA Baltic Ferries – new Polish ferry operator
POLSCA Baltic Ferries is a shipping company established in 2025 by three operators: Unity Line, Polferries, and EuroAfrica. Its purpose is to consolidate the fleet and operational activities of Polish ferry operators, improve efficiency in passenger and Ro‑Ro transport, and strengthen competitiveness in the Baltic Sea market.
POLSCA functions as a management platform for both new and existing vessels, coordinating operational schedules, technical and environmental supervision, and collaboration with port authorities and shipyards. Within the consortium, the Polish operators share operational expertise, logistics resources, and modern LNG-hybrid vessel technologies.
“Batory” program – construction of modern Ro‑Pax ferries
The “Batory” program was launched in 2021 as a state initiative to support Polish ferry shipping. Under this program, three modern Ro‑Pax ferries were commissioned at Gdańsk Remontowa Shipyard, with an option for a fourth vessel. The program aims to replace older ships with modern, low-emission ferries, increase operational efficiency of Polish operators, and strengthen their position in the Baltic ferry market.
The first vessel of the series, Jantar Unity, will be officially christened on 17 January 2026 in Szczecin, with an open day for the public and industry the following day, offering the opportunity to tour the ferry and explore its state-of-the-art technical solutions.
