The alert was raised by the ship's agent, prompting a swift response from officers of the Port Watch of the Border Guard Post in Gdańsk, supported by a Special Intervention Unit. Upon arrival, the armed crew member was actively threatening others with a knife. The situation required the use of direct coercive measures – the seafarer was physically overpowered using restraining techniques and handcuffs before being escorted off the vessel.
Following the intervention, the individual was handed over to paramedics and local police officers. He was subsequently admitted to a psychiatric hospital for further evaluation. According to the authorities, the crew member held a valid passport and visa entitling him to stay in the territory of Poland and the Schengen Area.
The incident underscores the importance of rapid response protocols and coordinated action by maritime and port security forces. With international shipping traffic operating around the clock, ensuring safety onboard vessels is a critical aspect of port operations and maritime logistics infrastructure.
