Gdańsk - Karlshamn ferry route strengthens Baltic shipping network

POLSA S.A., the newly established Polish shipping company, is expanding its Baltic ferry network with a new connection between Gdańsk (Poland) and Karlshamn (Sweden). The agreement, signed on February 3, 2026, between Poland’s Baltic Shipping Company (Polferries) and Port of Karlshamn, covers a minimum three-year collaboration and plans to launch regular services in Q2 2026.

Route features and fleet

The new route will be serviced by two modern vessels with similar cargo capacities, each able to carry approximately 90 full truck loads (17 m each). One vessel will focus on freight transport, while the second will be a ro-pax ferry providing passenger comfort, cabins, and catering facilities.

Sailings are scheduled six times per week, departing in the evening from both ports and arriving in the morning, with a total crossing time of approximately 13 hours.

Impact on Baltic transport and logistics

The Gdańsk – Karlshamn route complements existing Polish ferry connections, including Świnoujście – Ystad, Świnoujście – Trelleborg, and Gdańsk – Nynäshamn. This expansion increases flexibility for road carriers and logistics operators, offering efficient alternatives for freight and passenger transport across the Baltic Sea.

The Westerplatte Ferry Terminal in Gdańsk provides modern facilities for ro-ro and ro-pax vessels, ensuring fast cargo handling and high terminal throughput.
