French frigate FLF Courbet undergoes mine explosion resistance test
The French Navy conducted a crucial endurance test on the La Fayette-class frigate (FLF) Courbet to assess the vessel’s and its systems’ resistance to a powerful naval mine explosion. This experiment, known as "essai de choc," is a key element of the Marine Nationale's program to enhance combat readiness in the face of rising high-intensity conflict threats.

The test was carried out in real conditions, allowing for a detailed analysis of the explosion’s impact on the frigate’s structural integrity and onboard systems. This initiative is part of the POLARIS program, launched in 2021, aimed at preparing French naval forces for high-intensity operations.
These efforts align with Marine Nationale's strategy of modernization and adaptation to contemporary threats. Previous tests included the launch of an F21 torpedo from a nuclear-powered attack submarine (SNA) towards the hull of the decommissioned vessel Premier maître l’Her at the end of 2024.
The experiment conducted on FLF Courbet serves as a valuable source of information for engineers and military strategists, enabling further development of ship protection systems and enhancing the safety of crews operating in high-risk areas.
