- 28 M1A2SEPv3 Abrams tanks have arrived in Gdynia! They will soon be in service with the Polish Army. Ultimately, we will have 250 of the most modern Abrams tanks - stated Deputy Minister of National Defense Paweł Bejda.
According to the Armament Agency, the tanks will next be transported to the Military Automotive Plant in Poznań for deprocessing—a thorough initial inspection following their long sea transport.
- This delivery represents the first batch of 28 M1A2SEPv3 (System Enhancement Package Version 3) Abrams tanks out of a total of 250 units purchased in April 2022 for the Polish Armed Forces. Delivery of the remaining tanks and accompanying equipment will continue until 2026. This is also the first shipment of M1A2SEPv3 Abrams tanks following the completion of deliveries of the older M1A1 Abrams model to the Polish Armed Forces in June of last year. A contract for 116 M1A1 tanks was signed on January 4, 2023 - the Armament Agency reported.
The M1A2SEPv3 is the latest version of the American Abrams main battle tank. Its primary armament is a 120 mm smoothbore M256 gun, compatible with the latest ammunition types, including programmable rounds. Its advanced fire control system ensures high accuracy. Auxiliary armament includes a remotely controlled CROWS weapon module with a 12.7 mm heavy machine gun and two 7.62 mm machine guns.
The Abrams M1A2SEPv3 is characterized by strong ballistic and anti-mine resistance, providing the highest level of crew protection. Its propulsion system is powered by a Honeywell AGT1500 Tiger gas turbine engine, delivering 1,500 horsepower for high maximum speed and mobility across various terrains. The latest version also features an auxiliary power unit (APU).
The combat weight of the M1A2SEPv3 Abrams, depending on the platform configuration, is approximately 65–70 tons, allowing them to be transported using low-loader trailers for tanks and heavy tracked equipment weighing up to 70 tons.
The previous delivery of 116 M1A1 Abrams tanks for the Polish Army was completed in June 2024. The final batch included 47 tanks and 26 workshops mounted on HMMWV chassis. The total contract value was approximately $1.4 billion net, with nearly $200 million financed by the U.S. through aid funds allocated to Poland. The M1A1 Abrams tanks have been deployed to the 18th Mechanized Division.
