Strategic expansion into Romania
WB Group, Poland’s largest private defense company, signed a cooperation agreement with Romaero during the Black Sea Defence and Aerospace (BSDA) exhibition in Bucharest.
The agreement focuses on industrial collaboration for the GLADIUS reconnaissance-strike system, which forms the core of WB Group’s offer to the Romanian Ministry of National Defence.
The partnership also covers assembly and manufacturing of WARMATE loitering munitions in Romania.
According to WB Group CEO Piotr Wojciechowski, Romania is considered a strategic market where the company aims to build long-term industrial partnerships rather than operate solely as an equipment supplier.
Local manufacturing aligned with SAFE funding
Under the agreement, Romaero facilities will be adapted for large-scale production of unmanned systems to support Romanian armed forces procurement and future European demand.
The initiative is designed to align with programs financed fully or partially under the European Union’s SAFE (Security Action for Europe) instrument, of which Romania is among the largest beneficiaries.
The model ensures industrial value retention within Romania while enhancing local engineering and manufacturing capabilities.
GLADIUS as centerpiece capability
GLADIUS integrates WARMATE loitering munitions with WB Group’s reconnaissance UAV platforms and the TOPAZ battlefield management system.
The system delivers strike capabilities beyond 100 km while enabling network-centric integration with tube artillery, rocket artillery and missile systems.
Already fielded by the Polish Armed Forces, GLADIUS provides an operationally validated platform for export markets.
Building regional industrial resilience
The agreement follows WB Group’s earlier announcement of WB ROMANIA, a dedicated local entity intended to deepen the company’s presence in the Romanian defense market.
Romaero contributes more than 70 years of aerospace manufacturing and maintenance expertise, making it a natural industrial partner for advanced UAV production.
The cooperation reflects a broader European trend toward localized defense manufacturing, technology transfer and supply chain resilience amid accelerating regional rearmament.
