A parade of maritime heritage
The opening phase of the event features key U.S. Coast Guard vessels, including the training barque USCGC Eagle and the medium endurance cutter USCGC Mohawk, both serving dual roles in operational readiness and public engagement.
Alongside U.S. units, a multinational fleet of sail training ships has gathered in New Orleans, turning the Mississippi River into a floating maritime exhibition and a stage for naval diplomacy.

“Sail 250” highlights the strategic and symbolic importance of maritime cooperation. Participating vessels from allied navies and sail training programs engage in joint sailing formations, port events, and public tours, underscoring shared maritime heritage across continents.

Among the international participants is Poland’s celebrated sail training ship Dar Młodzieży. Operated by the Polish maritime education system, the vessel joins the Sail 250 gathering as a symbol of Poland’s long-standing maritime tradition and its commitment to training future generations of seafarers.
