New appointments strengthen Polish naval and NATO command structures

Poland’s Ministry of National Defence announced a series of senior military appointments on 3 June 2026, reinforcing key command positions within the Polish Armed Forces and NATO structures. Several of the newly assigned officers will assume roles of particular relevance to the maritime domain.

Among the most significant naval-related appointments, Vice Admiral Krzysztof Jaworski has been designated Deputy Commander of the General Command of the Armed Forces Branches. Vice Admiral Piotr Nieć will take over as Commander of the Maritime Operations Centre and Maritime Component Commander, a position responsible for planning and conducting naval operations within Poland’s defence framework.

Another important appointment for the maritime community is Colonel Wojciech Wróblewski’s designation as Commander of the Naval Aviation Brigade. The formation plays a critical role in maritime surveillance, anti-submarine warfare support, search and rescue missions, and operational support for the Polish Navy.

During the ceremony held at the Ministry of National Defence headquarters in Warsaw, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz highlighted the importance of leadership continuity and preparedness for future challenges.

- The Armed Forces must have confidence in the decisions taken, stability of command, and preparation for new roles and new challenges. That is why today we are making so many appointments to the most important commands and positions within both NATO and the Polish Armed Forces.

The minister also emphasized that the appointments were based on professional merit, operational experience, and advanced military education.

- Today’s appointments reflect a strategy implemented jointly with the General Staff and military commanders. These nominations are not the result of political decisions. They stem from preparation, competence, impeccable service records, completed training programmes, continuous professional development, and education at both Polish and allied institutions, including those in the United States and the United Kingdom.

The broader reshuffle also includes senior Polish officers assuming positions within NATO command structures, underlining Poland’s growing contribution to Alliance operations and collective defence.

For the maritime sector, the appointments signal continued investment in naval command capabilities, operational readiness, and the integration of Poland’s maritime forces within NATO’s command architecture.
