This position is one of the most important in the field of developing modern operational capabilities. It involves advising at the highest level on policies, doctrines, and strategic development in cybersecurity within NATO. In practice, it allows for real influence on how the Alliance prepares for threats in cyberspace – now recognized as one of the primary domains of military operations.

Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz commented on the appointment, highlighting its significance:

- This is a key role in strengthening cybersecurity within the Alliance. General Molenda brings years of operational and strategic experience in cyber. His appointment confirms that the capabilities developed by the Polish Armed Forces in digital transformation and modern operational readiness are highly valued within NATO.

The newly appointed Cyber Champion responded, emphasizing both the honor and responsibility of the role:

- Minister, thank you for your congratulations and kind words. I accept this appointment as an honor, but even more as a responsibility. I see this recognition primarily as an acknowledgment of the work of the soldiers and experts who every day build the Polish Armed Forces’ advantage in cyberspace. Ahead of us lie new challenges. I am ready to face them with full commitment, serving Poland and strengthening the security of the Alliance.

General Molenda has long been associated with the development of Poland’s cyber capabilities. As Commander of the Component of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Poland responsible for Cyber Defense, he has co-created structures protecting and conducting operations in cyberspace, combining operational experience with strategic expertise.

His appointment aligns with broader trends within NATO. Modern conflicts increasingly involve hybrid warfare, where cyberattacks, information operations, and disruptions of critical infrastructure are as significant as conventional military operations. In response, the Alliance is intensifying the development of cyber capabilities, treating them as a cornerstone of collective security.

Polish leadership in such a prominent position signals the country’s rising influence within NATO. It also demonstrates that investments in national digital capabilities and cybersecurity translate into tangible influence on the development of international security policies.

Operationally, the Cyber Champion’s work will not be highly visible to the public. Its impact will be reflected in long-term strategies, technology development, and integration of cyber with other operational domains – the areas where the future of NATO’s security is increasingly determined.

General Molenda’s appointment is thus not only a personal honor but also a recognition of the expertise and commitment of all those who build Poland’s cyber defense capabilities.
