Fire breaks out in cargo hold of scrap carrier at Szczecińskie Quay
A fire broke out in the cargo hold of a vessel carrying scrap metal while berthed at Szczecińskie Quay. The response involves 17 firefighting units and two fireboats, with operations being conducted from both shore and waterside.

Large-scale emergency response
Emergency services received the alarm at 22:32 local time after a fire was reported in the cargo hold of a scrap metal carrier moored at Szczecińskie Quay.
According to the latest information, the response includes 12 units of the State Fire Service (PSP), two units from PSP Florian, one unit from ORLEN Fire Service, and two dedicated fireboats. Firefighters are working simultaneously from the quay and from the waterside to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading.
Challenging firefighting conditions
Fires involving scrap metal cargoes are among the most demanding incidents faced by port emergency services. The dense and compact nature of the cargo can make it difficult to access the seat of the fire, while high temperatures may lead to prolonged firefighting operations and the risk of re-ignition.
The deployment of fireboats is particularly important in such incidents, providing additional water supply capacity and enabling responders to attack the fire from multiple directions while protecting adjacent port infrastructure.
Cause remains unknown
At the time of publication, authorities have not reported any injuries or disclosed the cause of the fire. There has also been no official information regarding potential operational disruptions at the port.
