50 turbines installed, Baltic Power enters final construction phase
Baltic Power, Poland’s first offshore wind farm developed by ORLEN Group and Northland Power, has reached a major milestone with 50 of its 76 turbines now installed in the Baltic Sea. The project is entering its final construction phase, with commissioning works and grid integration tests underway ahead of first power delivery.

Poland’s first offshore wind farm nears completion
Construction of the Baltic Power offshore wind farm has entered its final stage. The project team has completed the installation of all 78 foundations and transition pieces, while 50 of the planned 76 wind turbines are already in place.
Both offshore substations and the onshore grid connection infrastructure are ready for commissioning. The operations and maintenance base, which will support the wind farm throughout its operational lifetime, is also fully established.

Grid integration and commissioning activities underway
Alongside the installation of the remaining turbines, the project is advancing with cable works, systems testing and commissioning procedures required to integrate the offshore and onshore infrastructure with Poland’s national electricity grid.
The current phase includes energisation tests, commissioning activities and preparations for the first transmission of electricity from the offshore installation to the national power system.
- We are continuing turbine installation and carrying out advanced cable works. At the same time, testing and commissioning activities are underway to ensure full integration of the wind farm with the national power system. This is one of the most demanding stages of the entire project, requiring close cooperation between project teams, contractors and the transmission system operator, said Maciej Stryjecki, CEO of Baltic Power.
Next-generation 15 MW turbines deployed in the Baltic Sea
Baltic Power is one of the first two offshore wind projects globally to deploy Vestas’ 15 MW turbines, currently the manufacturer’s largest model produced at its European facilities.
Each turbine, including its foundation, stands more than 250 metres high. Its 115.5-metre blades create a swept area larger than six football pitches.
According to Vestas, approximately 15 per cent of the steel used in the turbines is produced primarily from recycled materials in furnaces powered by renewable energy. This solution could reduce the turbines’ lifecycle carbon footprint by up to 10 per cent.
Strategic importance for the Baltic offshore sector
Located approximately 23 kilometres off the Polish coast near Choczewo and Łeba, the Baltic Power wind farm will have a total installed capacity of around 1.2 GW upon completion.
The project is expected to generate up to 4 TWh of electricity annually, covering around 3 per cent of Poland’s current electricity demand.
Beyond its contribution to the national energy mix, Baltic Power marks a significant step forward for the development of the Baltic Sea offshore wind sector. The investment is expected to stimulate the growth of maritime infrastructure, service ports and local supply chains, while strengthening Poland’s position as a key offshore wind market in Central and Eastern Europe.
Baltic Power is a joint venture between ORLEN Group and Canadian energy company Northland Power and remains the most advanced offshore wind project currently under development in Poland.
